healthy is trendy!

Cardio at the gym can be so boring but it does not have to be! My heart rate blocks workout will have you hopping between machines while blasting your metabolism. Four rounds that are just 7 minutes each to get your cardio day done!

Recently I have really been interested in figuring out exactly how hard I am actually pushing myself in my workouts. I am very curious about macronutrients. A big part I understand is learning what macros your body needs on a day depends on how much you exert yourself. Sure I can feel I worked out hard but that may not actually be the case.  When I received an Apple Watch a few months back I was most excited about the heart rate monitor. Using a guide on exercise intensity has helped me understand my target heart rate zone. I was a bit shocked to learn I only reach my maximum heart rate when I run or do a very intense HIIT like Les Mills GRIT. Typically I will stay within my heart rate zone on all workouts besides yoga but I am still collecting data to better understand my output.

The workout I am sharing today was super fun for a few reasons. The obvious- cardio machines can be super boring! Spending only 6 minutes on each one felt more like a game then a workout. Not only that but I kept checking my heart rate to see if I could get to my maximum. Breaking up the cardio part with a minute of weights was a nice pause from the cardio; kinda like a cool down– but not really.

If you do not have access to all the machines listed, feel free to just pick one (or two) to do the pace blocks but do 4 rounds so you get all the weighted exercises in. If you have any questions on the moves just let me know!

Do you wear a heart rate monitor when you workout? What exercises do you find get you to your maximum heart rate? Leave a comment and let me know!

My workout top was a Christmas gift from my sweet sister-in-law; it’s part of the JoyLab collection at Target.  I love the twist in the front and pretty pale color. It looks great paired with high waist workout tights too!
