Layering for Late Winter

This time of year in the Midwest we get all the seasons sometimes in one week. A tease of a beautiful warm 70 degree day followed by snow showers a few days later. Layering for late winter can be a challenge but also fun. It is a time to mix some pieces to create a style to reflect the mixed up weather.

One of my favorite SoCal bloggers layered a t-shirt dress last month with a cardi for some insta-style. I wanted to create a similar look using pieces I own at that are Midwest temperature appropriate.

I paried a favorite sweatshirt dress with a closet staple of a long black cardigan and  black over the knee boots for a dash of #onTrend.

I was having an issue keeping my boots up on bare legs- does that happen to anyone else? Made me kinda regret that my boots did not have the adjustable elastic on the thigh. Thankfully I found a pair of pointelle knit socks to help! They are a little thin but just thick enough to keep OTK boots from falling down when I wear skirts and dresses.

Also, I need to talk a little bit about my new Mom bag. It did not take long to realize I need both my hands when running errands solo with the kids. I really wanted a backpack but I had a few specifica requirements. Needed to be black, big enough for Mom and kid gear and affordable. The kicker was, I wanted it to be real leather too.  After weeks of searching I found a beautiful all leather Sorial Candance backpack at my local TJ Maxx.

After cashing in a gift card, I ended up snagging this for $15! I have been using it for about a month and it’s holding up so well- especially for how much I pack in there. Diapers, snacks, sippy cups, toys, wipes, wallet, cell, makeup… you know, all the Mom neccessities.

3 Shoulder Show Looks for the Office

It’s July (my birthday month, woo!), and the year of the shoulder show game is STILL strong. What I’m loving the most about this trend is it’s flirting with all the different styles out there. Workout gear, casual, athleisure, formal, swimwear and even professional looks! I see so many adorable cold shoulder and off the shoulder tops that I would love to purchase but my reality is 5 out of 7 days a week my outfits adhere to my company’s dress code policy making some options not office friendly. I was really excited when I came across a few off […]

Delicious Summer Veggie Sub

The husband and I have a new grilled obsession and I’m sure it’s going to be one of your summer favorite meals too! We first discovered this delicious vegetable sub over at a friend’s house for dinner. The eggplant and squash are so hearty that you don’t even miss the meat! Add the gooey cheese, fresh pesto and sautéed peppers- yum! This is a winning grilled sub! One of the best part is you can make this with whatever vegetables you ave on hand. We happen to have some asparagus we needed to use so we thew it on there! […]

Closet Finds FTW

I’m not a hoarder of much of anything besides crafting and wardrobe pieces. I’m not kidding when I say I still have the skirt I wore to my high school graduation! I don’t wear it too often because I’m not really a skirt girl. It’s a basic cream colored modest mini skirt from Express that is such a wardrobe staple that I can’t part with it.  Then there are other items that aren’t such a basic piece that I have kept. If I’m being really honest with you- unless a piece gets ruined, doesn’t fit or just waaay out of […]

5 Casual Summer Sandals This Season

I’m a strong believer that a shoe can make or break an outfit. The shoe doesn’t even need to be a wow factor for this to happen- it just has to be the right shoe. For as much as I believe this for years I only wore some version of a flip flop in the summer in all the colors. I eventually graduated from a rainbow of plastic to a rainbow of leather but it wasn’t until a few years ago I started to embrace the various forms of the summer sandal. And now, I can’t stop! Of course I […]

3 Reasons Why I Date My Husband

My go to marriage advice to give for bridal shower/wedding games  is “continue to date one another”. Sure there are other marriage advice that I think are important but for me this one is crucial- and even more so now that we have kids. Work, career, laundry, cooking, cleaning house, paying bills, running errands- there’s a lot that happens to be a functioning adult. Then you have kids which adds another level to all the noise that is life. This can leave us feeling exhausted! It’s good  to break away from the every day routine with Adam for a little bit. As […]

Small Victories

Happy Monday! I hope everyone had a nice weekend.  We had gorgeous weather and I spent celebrating with friends and family all weekend long- it flew by! I’m pretty excited about these striped pants. They are from last year but guys, they fit again! Yeah for small victories. In fact, I wore these last Mother’s Day and just a few weeks later I found out I was pregnant with little miss. I still have some more weight and inches to lose but it feels great to wear something in my regular size! Those tough workouts  from the Spring into Summer Shape […]

Blush Denim

I can barely contain my happy in these photos. I’d like to say it’s because I’ve found a great pair of blush denim skinnies. I mean seriously these are amazing for my post-baby bod. They are silky, they pull on, they give squish support and iron so easy. A busy Mom dream for color denim right here! They come in red, black and olive too! I’m also loving how this breezy spring white sweater and of course, dem mules paired for a professional look last week. The real reason for all the happy is all that fresh wood I’m standing on. […]
