A PSL Workout

It is PSL season after all- let’s have a little workout pun fun! This quick workout will work arms, core and legs.. oh the legs.

Full disclosure, I have totally fallen off the motivational wagon and have slipped on making it to my workouts. I am working on adjusting my focus to the long term effects/goals of a fit lifestyle instead of the quick obtainable ones like fitting back into a fair pair of jeans.

For some reason Lil Miss has wanted to party for a few hours every night around 2:30am. This Mama is tired and has hit snooze on her alarm for far too many days as of late. Gaining that much needed extra hour of sleep means sacrificing a morning workout. This week I’m determined to stop neglecting my daily workouts. So today the weather was perfect for a run during my lunch break and I did just that!

Tell Me: What are some of your larger goals that keep you showing up to the gym day after day?

My run was short; just 1.5 miles. I wanted to add a little something extra especially given how much I have slacked lately. This short workout was a great supplement to my run!

Bell Sleeves and Wide Legs

Sometimes you need to throw caution to the wind, pair a few trends and see how they turn out. But isn’t that what makes fashion and styling fun? I think so!

Being that I am barely over five feet tall wide leg pants is a tricky look for me to pull off. I always need to wear tall heels to allow that wide leg to flow. Pairing wide leg pants with a (slight) bell sleeve top is a bold move for me. I was not sure how this would look but I am loving the combo! It works because of my shirt is tucked in creating some definition to my small frame.

I purchased both my top and pants from Kohl’s last month on mega clearance- both items marked under $10! Throw some Kohl’s cash on top of that and this outfit was basically free! Besides my shoes (those olive booties again) I was not able to find any of my exact outfit details to link up for you gals but make sure to check out the items I put in the product widget. I found a lot of great dups so you can create a similar look!

What’s a trend you’d love to mix even if it is outside your comfort zone?

Sunflowers and Gingham

Pairing a perfect early fall activity with an end of summer classic style! Keep reading to find out more!

There is this amazing sunflower field in Yellow Springs, Ohio. My husband and I have lived in Dayton for almost 8 years and admittedly this was our first time visiting.

The field is gorgeous! However I had no idea what to expect visiting a sunflower field. There are tons of bees! Thankfully the little terrors are drunk on pollen and could care less about us moving through the field. I did not expect the flowers to be so tall or itchy either. My sweet four year old plowed through rows taller than him. Such a trooper!

The problem with tall flowers is it makes it impossible for this novice blogger to take a full outfit shot in the field. I really am not sure what I was thinking? Totally should have Pinterest that idea first. I took a picture of my shoes thinking maybe it would help visualize the look. Probably does not but maybe? Just go with it! The flowers are too pretty not to share so I’m posting anyway.

I wore a gingham button up I purchased years ago from Kohl’s with my favorite jeans ev-er. I am so beyond excited to fit back into my favorite AG jeans since baby girl was born! {happy dance} I pulled on my new obessisson: these olive peep toe booties. Also probably not the best choice to wear heels to march through a sunflower field. All things I am taking note for next year!

My bag is from Heart Mercantile. It’s a fun earthy tone in a faux suede & I am totally loving it for fall!

5 Shoes for Early Fall

Here in Southwest Ohio, we have a few more weeks of skin showing shoes. There is no more perfect time than early fall to bust out the (faux) suede shoes, peep toes and open backs!  Keep reading to see my current shoe choices!

I’m still wearing these perforated mules purchased from Target this past Spring. They are currently trending and at under $35- a shoe you want in your collection! They look so great with jeans and just about anything from a favorite sweater to a casual t-shirt.

Next up is a pair if sling back booties I purchased on clearance last October. I wore these all last fall when I was pregnant.  I love to pair them with anything I’m wearing with my jeans or when I’m wearing a jersey midi dress. Best part is they are comfortable! These and these are similar options, and this pair under $45!

Busy gals need a solid pair of flats for every season and I’m totally loving these nude peep toe faux suede ones I picked up at Old Navy. I could not believe that they were marked on clearance at my local store for $2.97 when they are not anywhere near that price online! I always size up a half size on my flats and this one the only pair left in my size in the store. There was no way they were not coming home with me. I love that I can wear these with dress pants and jeans making them very versatile for work and play!

I’m most excited about these peep toe booties I ordered from Kohls. I love the side slit and block heel but I mostly love the colors (tan, olive, black). It was a hard decision to make but I went with the olive shade. I thought they would be a fun way to mix up neutrals this season!

Since there isn’t snow on the ground (yet)- I’m going to push wearing strappy sandals for as long as I can. I took these low block heel sandals with me to Miami Beach last month. I was nervous about ruining them while walking SoBe in the rain and was really glad to see how well they held up. I even wore them for the 4 mile bike ride we took along the Miami Beach Boardwalk. If you need a basic heel, make it these!

You will see these shoes featured in the outfit posts for September to give you some other ideas on how to style. Pretty soon the weather will drop for good and I’ll be all about the boots and booties so I’m hanging on to pedicure season while it’s still here!

Transition into Fall with a Denim Vest

Happy Labor Day friends! I hope you’ve enjoyed the weekend! We were fortunate to catch a breakfast with some friends that were in town visiting. Then the little man had a birthday party. We also visited a gorgeous sunflower field, enjoyed burgers at a favorite joint and had some fun at Alter Fest (a local festival). Not to mention lots of hang out time at home. It was a pretty perfect weekend!

Fall tempted us with her refreshing cool weather earlier this weekend but the last two days it’s been HOT. I did grab a #PSL, so there’s that! Hello favorite drink.

A few years ago I was convinced denim vests would become a trend. Apparently they didn’t catch on because they have not appeared on any “must-own” list. I still love my little jean vest almost as much as I love my jean jacket- even if I feel a little awkward when styling. I’m most comfortable when I pair it over a sleeveless dress. I think it could be cute over the right sleeved dress too!

If you are in a warmer state adding a denim vest over a summer dress is a great way to transition into fall. Style with a favorite open toe shoe and a long necklace to complete your look! Perfect for fall days that are pushing towards 90!

My maxi dress is from this past spring and is sold out so I’ve linked similar versions. My jean vest is from Gap a few years ago- so I’ve also linked similar items if you want to duplicate my look!

Top Knot & One Shoulder: A Killer Date Night Look + a Giveaway!

Friday night, aka Date Night. Although, my date night looks something like cute comfy clothes, a bottle of wine and Netflix while snuggled up next to Adam. Buut, if we happen to have a baby sitter and were going out tonight this is totally what I would wear!

With the nights still warm, I can wear a one shoulder top with jeans and be comfortable. Paired with a classic nude heel, sparkly studs, a sentimental bracelet and a favorite clutch gives sophistication. Add the tried and true top not and now we are date ready!

A little brag here- this is the first I’ve been able to fit into my favorite pair of jeans since early in my pregnancy last year! It feels good seeing my dedication to my health is paying off. It also feels really great to have my favorite jeans back into rotation!

I also have a very exciting announcement! I’ve paired up with some of the Style Collective sisters to give one lucky follower a shopping trip worth over $150! Hop over to my Instagram page, look for this post and follow the steps to enter!

Closet Find: The Chambray Purse

Happy Friday friends!

I wore this outfit a few weeks back to a happy hour event A’s department was hosting. My outfit stemmed around finding this purse in my closet. The baby was napping and for whatever reason I decided to dig through the two containers that keep my purse collection over the years. I found this cute summery purse that I swear to you, I probably bought from Target in 2005!

See the handle? That white with stripes is actually what the purse looks like but I decided to flip it inside out when I saw the inside was chambray. Let’s be real, did anyone know what chambray was in ’05? Talk about a total find right in my closet!W

With my cute “new” purse in hand I looked at the rest of my closet and paired it with a few recently purchased items. I paired it with my current favorite distressed jeans, a simple white off the shoulder top & cute huaraches. Just like that, I’ve got a brand new look just by shopping my closet!

That’s honestly the aspect about styling I enjoy the most! I love creating looks and hunting for pieces. For years, I was the girl who never wore an outfit more than once. Pieces, yes. Same look, no. Although when I hit 30, I told myself that’s ridiculous- and if I really love a look go ahead and wear it more than once!

I encourage you to dig around in your closet, see if there is something old you can make new again by adding a few NOW pieces. What might you create?

3 Shoulder Show Looks for the Office

It’s July (my birthday month, woo!), and the year of the shoulder show game is STILL strong. What I’m loving the most about this trend is it’s flirting with all the different styles out there. Workout gear, casual, athleisure, formal, swimwear and even professional looks! I see so many adorable cold shoulder and off the shoulder tops that I would love to purchase but my reality is 5 out of 7 days a week my outfits adhere to my company’s dress code policy making some options not office friendly. I was really excited when I came across a few off the shoulder and cold shoulder tops that were more modest and professional!

I have three outfits to share today that are prefect for my 9to5- hopefully some #officestyleinspo for you!

First up is this white off the shoulder top. The poplin material makes this shirt structured and perfect for work-wear. How cute are the ties on the sleeves?

I kept my outfit simple by pairing with a classic navy trousers and nude slides. Added some jeweled stack bracelets and matching earrings to add a little something fun.

Next up is a cold shoulder button up! That’s right, you read right: cold shoulder + button up! This is like the most grown-up cold shoulder shirt I’ve seen! I was really excited to add this top to my closet.

I put it together with blush skinnies, nude strappy heels and popped in my favorite black diamond earring studs to complete this look! Ignore the wrinkles, that’s what happens when outfit pictures are taken after a full day of work. I have some white and black wide leg pants this top would look great with! I can’t wait to wear it with some distressed jeans for a night out!

Top | Pants | Heels (similiar) | Earrings | Ring

My last look to share includes this super cute ruffled cold shoulder blouse. It’s pretty sheer so I threw a cami underneath to make it work-appropriate. I think if I wear it on the weekend I’d skip the cami & just go for it.

I love the soft ruffle across the top and the airy sleeves! I combined these wide linen pants I purchased at Target many years ago with block heeled cognac sandals & a skinny navy belt. Added a pair of faux diamond earrings and this look is way stylish for the office!

Top | Pants (similiar) | Shoes | Earrings | Sunnies (similiar)| Ring | Watch | Belt

A few other office-friendly tops I’m loving include this ruffle mock turtleneck neck cold shoulder blouse- I love it in yellow but the navy is pretty too! This white off the shoulder button down would pair so well with a pencil skirt. A lace short sleeve cold shoulder blouse combined with white skinnies or a full skirt would be so cute! This key-hole front cold shoulder top would be great with jeans for casual Friday’s!

Closet Finds FTW

I’m not a hoarder of much of anything besides crafting and wardrobe pieces. I’m not kidding when I say I still have the skirt I wore to my high school graduation! I don’t wear it too often because I’m not really a skirt girl. It’s a basic cream colored modest mini skirt from Express that is such a wardrobe staple that I can’t part with it.  Then there are other items that aren’t such a basic piece that I have kept. If I’m being really honest with you- unless a piece gets ruined, doesn’t fit or just waaay out of style I keep it. Sometimes trends come full circle and a piece becomes a little gem find.

Like this dress.

Purchased in 2011 from Forever 21. I bought it for a trip to Beijing and loved the one shoulder aspect. One shoulder tops weren’t really in then making it a really unique find. But now, as you know, it’s the year of the shoulder show and this dress is right on trend.

I paired it with a cute panama straw hat, metal fringe earrings, nude slides and my beloved straw tote. It was the perfect summer outfit for a little Sunday Funday with the fam.

Since this dress is six years, it’s obviously no longer available for sale. This stripped ruffle one-shoulder maxi is a great alternative, and if you want to splurge this off the shoulder version is super adorable. I also like this one shoulder version as well!

5 Casual Summer Sandals This Season

I’m a sucker for shoes, who’s with me?
I’m a strong believer that a shoe can make or break an outfit. The shoe doesn’t even need to be a wow factor for this to happen- it just has to be the right shoe. For as much as I believe this for years I only wore some version of a flip flop in the summer in all the colors. I eventually graduated from a rainbow of plastic to a rainbow of leather but it wasn’t until a few years ago I started to embrace the various forms of the summer sandal. And now, I can’t stop! Of course I always have my favorite leather flip flops in nude and black but now I’ve branched out to different styles and trends.

To kick off my list of five casual sandals for your closet this season is this gladiator pair from last year. I’ve seen this pair in store which looks like an updated version. While browsing last week at online, I saw my exact pair that I bought last season! I’m glad I can link it up for you guys. Although I am totally loving the backless version too- a Mom at open swim had them on in silver and they were super cute! These are a heavy rotation for my shorts, maxi skirts and maxi dresses.

I’m also really loving the BCBGeneration fringe strappy sandal I picked up at the Cincinnati Premium Outlets a few months ago. The store was closing and having a MAJOR sale- I snagged these for $8. Can you believe it?! I can’t find them online (I’ve looked, even eBay!), but these and these are some cute similar styles. I’ve worn these black babes more than I thought I would. I wore them today with a cute short romper from Banana Republic and then earlier in the week to work with a maxi dress.

Hands down my favorite casual sandal this season are the cognac huarache sandals. I reach for this strappy sandal all the time. I love it with embroidered tops, a white tee or a cute maxi! They are pretty comfy and true to size. I usually size a half size up on flats, and on these- I wish I would have stuck to my normal shoe size because they stretched a little.

My favorite casual shoe for work are these slides in nude. I feel like I’m getting away with something amazing when I wear them. They are effortless to put on and the patent dresses them up a notch. Perfect for the office with pants, skirts, dresses and jeans! I also wore them on Memorial Day with shorts and this one shoulder ruffle top. Super cute!

A new recent casual sandal that I’m loving are these lace up wedges. I bought them to wear with cut off shorts, tank and blazer for dinner out with the bestie- and I’ve worn them so much more! They are super cute with jeans and shorts. Bonus, they are pretty comfortable for having a zipped heel!
