Wife. Mom. Boss. A new favorite shirt for a Sunday Funday with the fam in my home city. Enjoyed our little afternoon watching trains, sipping cava and eating tacos in the Cleveland Flats. I like to think part of it is due to my new perspective on conquering it all. Continue reading to learn more!
Adam travels quite a bit for work but he was fortunate enough to slow (okay pretty much halt) work travel for most of this year since Lil Miss was born. Last month that travel lull came to an end and I had my first rodeo getting myself & two kids ready, drop off at two different schools and making it to work on time. Not to mention I’m not the chef of the house nor do I iron (ladies, I know- I’m one lucky lady!) Add all of that on top of all the other things Mom’s do and I started to stress about how I was going to accomplish everything.
For a few weeks leading up to flying solo on the parenting gig I was having a lot of anxiety already. Some days I feel I take on more than I can possibly manage and wonder how I can do it all. Always focusing that my never ending to do list is never done. For one week I decided to let it all go and boycott everyday chores. I learned two things that week: the house is still cluttered with toys and not doing anything all week makes for one long clean up on the weekend. On one hand something I could live with and on the other hand something I could not.
The Sunday that Adam departed I put on my Super Mom Cape and got myself prepared for the week after the kids went to bed. I picked out their clothes and mine, I packed lunches, breakfast prepped, and morning coffee and milks ready to roll. I decided that I would spend my lunch breaks that week working out to keep myself sane and avoid feeling guilty if I missed a workout or take away time from the kids. Dinners were easy crock-pot meals. The evenings were spent with a quick dinner and some play time before bed. Once they were asleep I would lightly pick up the house, prep for the next morning and quickly clean the kitchen. The night Adam came home I found myself prepping for the next day after the kids went to bed. How quickly I fell into a new routine. I more than survived that week, I changed.
I realized I can do and be all that I want to be with the right mindset. Playing solo-parenting means double work and it also means there is no room for slack when it comes to taking care of needs. That process shifted the way I viewed myself as a Mother and as a wife. I have my own expectations and if I want to achieve them there is no room for slack. I also learned to shift the way I tackle life. I typically find myself frustrated that the laundry is not done, or the vacuuming is not done, or my to do list is not done. Combining balance from the week that I let everything go with the week I solo parent came this Aha moment for me. Life is never “done” but rather always on a revolving to do list. Prioritize the needs and let go that the to do list is never going to be 100% checked off.
It has now been a few weeks since I changed my mindset and my stress levels have gone down tremendously. I am not always thinking about what is left on my massive (and I mean massive) list of need to-dos, want to-do and have to-dos. I might even say I am accomplishing more since changing my mindset from focusing on priorities over “done”!

The JoyLab line from Target launched on Sunday. Have you checked it out? I have not popped over to my local store to see what they have but I have eyed some of the pieces online. Today I am sharing eight of my favorites from Target’s new activewear line! Keep reading to see my picks! #1 The Long Sleeve Wrap Shirt Joylab’s cute wrap around tee was the item I was most excited to purchase from the new JoyLab line- apparently I am not alone because there are already limited sizes available in the three color options (blush, deep olive […]
I was not sure I would get to wear this dress again this fall but babes- it is still reaching in the 80’s here (and all week too!) I really can not believe this weather we are having! By adding rich textures and fall staples I can take a spring floral dress into fall. Which is clutch in this weather! I purchased this dress on clearance at Kohl’s online over the summer for $10 to put back for fall. I thought even though it is a spring floral dress that the sleeves and rich hues it could still be pulled […]
A healthy twist on two classic fall recipes without the guilt. Protein pumpkin donut and hot chai acv cider are a must try! Keep reading for full details! One of my favorite activities to do when we visit my husband’s hometown in the fall is to hit up a cider mill for donuts and hot cider- I’m hoping to do that next month when we visit! Until then, I like to whip up baked donuts and warm spiked cider at home. Today I am sharing two of these recipes with a healthy twist in collaboration with the Cozy Fall Moments […]
I can not believe it is the last week of September and it is still in the upper 80’s and humid in Dayton! The high temps are to be here for a few more days and I am sure it is the last of the warm weather till 2018. The nice part to the weather still being so warm is being able to wear those colder season pieces that are sometimes like WTF, when am I supposed to wear this? The answer is right now, when it is humid and 88 but at the end of September when we are […]
Happy first day of Fall friends! I spotted this shift dress on the clearance rack at Kohl’s and had to grab it! The material is so soft, it is almost flannel like. It has cute tie detail on the sleeves too. This chambray shift dress is the exact dress and unfortunately the windowpane print is out of stock. Possibly available on the clearance rack in the junior section of your local store. I saw today that Loft has a windowpane chocker dress that is soo cute. Look at those belle sleeves! Which belle sleeves are a MAJOR trend this season! I […]
Last week I decided to go for a run on my lunch break. Something I never do but the weather was not too sunny-not too hot-not too cool. Basically a perfect day for a run. In my subdivision all the streets either dead end or dump back into the road used enter/exit our sub. So when a car with only a male driver passed me not once or twice, but five times at an alarming slow speed I was totally creeped out and a little frightened. I was glad I listened to my intuition and brought my phone for my […]
I’ve sat down to write this post so many times hoping direction would find me. I had anticipated to write a great post with meaning or inspiration. Anything that is not rambling but as it turns out- that’s all I have to offer to celebrate Style In Shape’s half birthday! .. oh, plus a giveaway! (<– Incentive to keep reading!) That’s right- today I am celebrating this baby blog being 6 months old! The last half a year have been everything, nothing and so much more than I could ever anticipate about running a blog. If you are new to […]
Now that I’m back into my post-baby size I am itching to get my hands on some new activewear! There are some major cute activewear trends for fall that I’m absolutely loving! Keep reading to check out four trends you need to try! A crop sweatshirt While online browsing today I saw a lot of crop sweatshirts and hoodies. Such a cute twist on the basic sweatshirt. I really dig this Nike one and this Adidas hoodie.. I would pair with high waisted leggings for the gym. Or with a long tank and cotton leggings for lounging. <br /> The […]
Hey babes! Sorry for the MIA the rest of last week. We had some yard work done and they happen to cut our internet cable too. Technicians came over the weekend to repair our wires. We are a streaming household (we cut cable over 4 years ago!) so a few days without internet is both challenging and refreshing! One of the fall trends for 2017 that I am loving is the sweatshirt dress! Comfy, cute and easy to dress up or down. They are a must have for early fall weather! Although not this past weekend or upcoming week here. […]
